Conjurer is a Good Choice of Being Buff

2011-01-13

Recently a survey is released to say that conjurer is the most popular class in FFXIV, he is the serendipity of many FFXIV players and FFXIV Power leveling stuff. There are two Disciplines of Magic in FFXIV: Thaumaturge and Conjurer.  The Conjurer is more clearly an established member of the Final Fantasy canon, fitting somewhere between Black Mage and White Mage, while the Thaumaturge does not fit so clearly into Final Fantasy lore.
Starting out as a Conjurer in FFXIV presents many challenges, not the least of which is your status as the game’s “Glass Cannon.”  Like a Black Mage, you’ll be dishing out heavy damage and only be able to take a very few hits.  Like a White Mage, you’ll have the ability to Cure yourself, as well as provide some buffs that are absolutely essential.  Starting with Stoneskin and continuing Protect and Shell, once your reach a certain point in your leveling career, these buffs become indispensable.
Stoneskin operates as a protective barrier around the player.   Final Fantasy XI players will remember the White Mage version of the spell; for World of Warcraft players, think of Power Word: Shield.  Its protective value is determined by your stats when cast.  As a monster hits you, it chips away at the protection until it is eventually gone.  For most monsters of an appropriate level for experience points, this will last between one and three hits.  It has a cooldown takes a few seconds to cast, so it is best to apply this before combat and reapply it during combat only if it’s necessary.
At level 15, a Lalafell Conjurer has in the ballpark of 550 hit points.  Since you don’t get Protect until level 16, at this level many monsters will be hitting you for over 100 and sometimes much more.  Once you apply Protect, that number becomes a more manageable 75-80, and gives you another benefit: Protect damage reduction is applied before value is taken away from Stoneskin, so Protect also increases the mileage of your Stoneskin.
Shell is more situational; you only really care about having Shell applied when fighting monsters with Elemental attacks or Casters.  A helpful hint: when fighting jellyfish mobs or slugs (just two examples), their TP moves are heavily elemental, and Shell will drastically reduce the damage taken.
And then it is a moment to address Shock Spikes. It is the shortest duration of the buffs (leaving aside Stoneskin being consumed by attacks) and requires frequent recasting.  So it can be a drag to keep this buff up on yourself or on others.  That being said, it deals feedback damage: every time a monster hits you, it attempts to deal damage back to the monster.  Even better, it does a lot of damage, often as much as casting an additional Spirit Bolt.  Furthermore, the damage from Shock Spikes can Stun the monster, causing it to stop attacking you.  For every second that the monster isn’t attacking, that’s less damage to your Stoneskin and to your HP pool.  The bottom line with Shock Spikes is that you’ll have to find your own happy medium between the great benefit vs. the annoyance of constant recasting.
Anyone playing Conjurer needs to learn to love these spells: they’re sure to be staples in your repertoire for many levels to come! So now how do you think about the conjurer? Our  Final Fantasy XIV power levelingstuffs are also high on this class and they will absolutely give you a perfect service if you hand over your character to them.
