The Ranger Profession in Guild Wars 2 is not only a master of the bow, but also the wilderness. They are unique in their ability to charm and command animals to fight. As a Ranger, you are capable of collecting all types of pets.
 
Skills
Pets – Rangers are able to charm pets and bond with them. There are a total of 4 pet slots, 2 for terrestrial and 2 for aquatic, while amphibious pets can count as either. A Ranger is able to collect and use every type of pet available in the game. During combat, 2 valid pet slots may be swapped with F4, even with the active pet downed. Swapping a downed pet will incur a longer cool down and its health will be full when swapped back in. The Ranger has a downed skill called Lick Wounds, in which a pet will revive the Ranger in a downed or drowning state. When a pet is defeated, it enters passive mode and returns to your side until it is revived.
 
Pet Controls - Pets have an active and passive stance, and are controlled by the Ranger. In active stance, your pet will automatically attack any engaged targets. A pet can be ordered to attack a specific enemy by selecting that target and pressing F1. In passive stance, your pet will follow you and not attack unless specified. Active and passive mode is toggled with F3.
 
Traits
Wilderness Survival – General character enhancements such as power, precision, and toughness.
 
Beast Mastery – Pet enhancements such as canine training, drake affinity, and speed training.
 
Specials
These are unique Ranger skills. In addition, Rangers also have access to Chains, like Warriors, and a special called Preparation that may be applied to weapons to change their skills.
