If your Clan War collection is built around one ladder deck, the fourth War Deck is usually where the plan breaks: the last deck has no spell, no tank answer, or a card that was already used elsewhere. The official rules require four unique War Decks, or 32 different cards, and War Decks use your own collection's card levels. The four lists below are editorial, no-overlap builds—not a permanent best-deck ranking—so choose the route whose core cards are actually levelled in your account.
The four-build answer at a glance
| War Deck | Eight-card build | Calculated average Elixir | Main job | First check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Hog Cycle | Hog Rider, Musketeer, Cannon, Ice Golem, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Fireball, The Log | 2.6 | Fast pressure and cheap defence | Can Cannon and Musketeer stop the counterpush? |
| 2. Golem Beatdown | Golem, Night Witch, Tornado, Lightning, Mega Minion, Baby Dragon, Lumberjack, Barbarian Barrel | 4.3 | One protected double-Elixir push | Can Lightning or Tornado preserve the Golem connection? |
| 3. Log Bait | Goblin Barrel, Princess, Valkyrie, Inferno Tower, Rocket, Goblin Gang, Dart Goblin, Skeleton Barrel | 3.8 | Force the opponent's small spell | Do two different threats survive the same answer? |
| 4. Royal Giant Control | Royal Giant, Fisherman, Hunter, Phoenix, Electro Spirit, Arrows, Goblin Cage, Royal Delivery | 3.5 | Bridge pressure and defensive pull | Can Fisherman or Hunter remove the main stopper? |
The four averages are calculated from the listed card costs and rounded to one decimal place. They are planning aids, not live balance data. The archetype split follows the useful current community pattern of separating Hog Cycle, Golem, Log Bait, and Royal Giant into different win-condition jobs; TrophyCoach's March 2026 Clan War guide is a community signal for that split, not an official ranking or a guarantee of results.
The official War Deck rules are the hard constraint: four decks, 32 unique cards, your own card levels, and a cooldown after a War Deck is used. The Supercell Clan Wars 2 explanation also describes River Tasks, Duels, Boat Battles, and the daily cooldown. The client remains the final check if your current Clan War screen differs from older articles.

Four different win conditions only help when every card is assigned once and each deck still has a complete defensive job.
Build the roster before you polish one deck
Do not finish Hog Cycle and then throw the leftovers into Decks 2–4. Reserve the scarce roles first:
- Assign one tower-taking win condition to each deck: Hog Rider, Golem, Goblin Barrel, and Royal Giant.
- Reserve one meaningful tank answer in every deck: Cannon, Lumberjack plus support, Inferno Tower, or Hunter/Goblin Cage interactions.
- Spread your spells before filling support slots. Fireball and The Log cannot also appear in another deck, so do not spend both on Deck 1 if your other routes have no answer to swarms or medium-health defenders.
- Fill the remaining slots with a specific job—air defence, splash, cycle, pull, or counterpush support—not simply the highest-level cards left.
This is why a lower-level but complete route can be more useful than a famous deck with three missing cards. The no-overlap rule is a collection-planning problem first and a matchup problem second.
War Deck 1: Hog Cycle
Cards: Hog Rider, Musketeer, Cannon, Ice Golem, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Fireball, The Log.
Use this as the flexible pressure route when your cheap cycle cards, Cannon, and Musketeer are among your best-levelled cards. Hog Rider is the win condition; Cannon and Musketeer defend the counterpush; Ice Golem buys time or kites; Skeletons and Ice Spirit return you to the next Hog. Fireball handles a meaningful defender, while The Log is reserved for the ground swarm or bait card that would otherwise stop the connection.
The first losing interaction is usually a building, Tornado activation, or a counterpush that your Cannon cannot contain. Track the opponent's four-card return instead of sending Hog into the same building repeatedly. If the building is still available every time your Hog returns, stop changing random support cards: either the spell cannot change the exchange or this route is not supported by your collection.
Best use: blind Duel opener or 1v1 when you need a route with several low-cost defensive options.
Change one role when: Cannon is too weak but the rest of the cycle is functional; test another building that preserves the same defensive job.
Switch routes when: Hog Rider, the cheap cycle core, and the building answer are all underlevelled. A different four-Elixir attacker does not preserve Hog Cycle.
War Deck 2: Golem Beatdown
Cards: Golem, Night Witch, Tornado, Lightning, Mega Minion, Baby Dragon, Lumberjack, Barbarian Barrel.
This is the slowest and most level-sensitive sample. Defend in single Elixir, then place Golem only when you have enough time or an Elixir advantage to build support behind it. Baby Dragon and Night Witch cover swarm pressure; Mega Minion gives a compact air-damage option; Lumberjack supplies a threatening counterpush after a defensive stop. Tornado can pull a win condition into central damage or group defenders for splash, while Lightning is for the building or support troop that actually prevents the Golem from reaching the tower.
Best use: a later Duel game after you have seen that the opponent lacks a reliable Inferno-style answer or has spent the relevant reset.
Change one role when: the push dies to air or swarm pressure before the Golem reaches the bridge; replace only the support card that fails that interaction, and recheck all four decks for duplicates.
Switch routes when: Golem is far below your other win conditions or the support package cannot survive your opponent's spell cycle. Do not make a low-level Golem list your default 1v1 deck just because its headline archetype is popular.
War Deck 3: Log Bait
Cards: Goblin Barrel, Princess, Valkyrie, Inferno Tower, Rocket, Goblin Gang, Dart Goblin, Skeleton Barrel.
Log Bait wins by creating two or more answers the opponent cannot comfortably clear with one small spell. Goblin Barrel is the main tower threat; Princess, Dart Goblin, Goblin Gang, and Skeleton Barrel make the spell decision awkward. Valkyrie protects the ground lane, Inferno Tower handles a heavy tank, and Rocket gives the deck a late-game damage route when a direct Barrel connection becomes difficult.
Do not spend every bait card at once. First identify the opponent's small spell and whether it is being used for defence or saved for Barrel. If Log, Zap, or Arrows is consistently answering both the bait card and Barrel, the issue is not a missing “stronger” bait card; your route needs a different timing, a different bait role, or a full switch.
Best use: a Duel opener when you are comfortable tracking spells and want to make the opponent reveal their defensive plan.
Change one role when: one bait card never creates a spell decision but the two Barrel threats and Inferno Tower remain usable.
Switch routes when: Goblin Barrel or Skeleton Barrel is missing, unusable at your card level, or the deck cannot force a spell before the tower threat arrives.
War Deck 4: Royal Giant Control
Cards: Royal Giant, Fisherman, Hunter, Phoenix, Electro Spirit, Arrows, Goblin Cage, Royal Delivery.
Royal Giant creates bridge pressure while Fisherman changes the position of the defender that would normally stop him. Hunter supplies close-range burst, Goblin Cage gives you a building and a counterpush body, Phoenix adds air presence, and Electro Spirit helps reset or cycle. Arrows and Royal Delivery are separate swarm answers; do not spend both on the first small group you see.
Best use: after the opponent has shown a slow deck or a defence that Fisherman can displace. It is also a good late Duel option when you can make a clear counter-pick from the first game.
Change one role when: Royal Giant reaches the bridge but the same defender always survives; first test Fisherman timing, then change the support card that cannot remove that defender.
Switch routes when: Royal Giant and Fisherman are underlevelled together, or the deck has no reliable answer to fast cycle pressure. Do not borrow Fireball, Log, or Cannon from another War Deck without rebuilding the full 32-card ledger.
Duel order and cooldown decisions
The official Duels guide says Clan War Duels require at least three War Decks. A Duel is best-of-three: the first player to win two battles wins, and a used deck cannot simply be reused in the later battle. The four-deck roster therefore gives you a reserve, not four attempts with the same list.
Use this sequence:
| Situation | Start with | Hold for later | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blind opponent | Hog Cycle or Log Bait | Golem | Reveal less of the expensive plan while keeping a reserve |
| Opponent shows a tank | Hog Cycle if Cannon is strong | Golem or Royal Giant | Choose the route whose tank answer is already levelled |
| Opponent shows fast cycle | Royal Giant Control | Golem | Bridge pressure can punish a slow rotation; Golem may never get set up |
| Opponent shows bait | Royal Giant if Arrows is ready | Log Bait | Avoid handing a bait player a clean spell-rotation read |
| Card levels are uneven | Your highest-level complete route | Underlevelled specialist | A complete usable deck beats a “meta” shell with missing interactions |
If a War Deck goes on cooldown after use, record it before choosing the next task. The cooldown is a real resource: a loss still consumes the deck, and a Duel may consume more than one deck. A simple four-row note—deck, cards used, level problem, next available time—prevents accidentally selecting a deck that cannot be used for the next River Task.
Replacements: preserve the job, not the Elixir cost
| Missing card or weak role | Safer replacement logic | Do not do this |
|---|---|---|
| Hog Rider | Move to a complete alternate win-condition route | Add another cheap attacker and still call it Hog Cycle |
| Golem | Use a complete beatdown route only if its support is levelled | Replace it with a medium tank and keep the same push plan |
| Goblin Barrel | Keep two distinct bait threats or switch to another route | Leave only one Barrel threat and expect the same spell pressure |
| Royal Giant | Use a different bridge-pressure route with its own support | Borrow Fisherman or Lightning from another deck |
| Tank answer | Swap by function, then retest air, swarm, and spell coverage | Add a second win condition that removes the defence slot |
| Spell | Reserve an answer for the deck's main counter | Use the highest-level spell without checking the other three decks |
After every replacement, count the cards across all four lists again. A legal deck with one missing role is not a finished War Deck.
When the collection—not the deck—is the bottleneck
If only one or two of these routes have usable card levels, do not treat a marketplace listing as a substitute for a matchup diagnosis. First write down the exact gap—for example, “a complete 32-card War roster with Hog Rider, Golem, Goblin Barrel, Royal Giant, and four usable tank answers.” If an account route is still compared, use the Clash Royale account listing checklist to verify Arena progress, card levels, Evolutions, Tower Troops, and screenshot consistency, then inspect current Clash Royale account listings.
Skip any listing that gives a headline Arena or trophy claim but does not show the actual cards and levels needed for your four-deck plan. A listing can document a collection; it cannot prove that a deck fits your play or that a current Clan War interaction will remain unchanged.
FAQ
How many unique cards do four Clash Royale War Decks need?
Four eight-card War Decks need 32 unique cards because the same card cannot appear in more than one War Deck. The official rules also state that War Decks use your own collection's card levels.
Which Clash Royale Clan War deck should I use first?
Use the highest-level complete route you can play. If levels are similar and the opponent is unknown, start with Hog Cycle or Log Bait; save Golem or Royal Giant for a clearer matchup. This is an editorial sequencing rule, not a live win-rate claim.
Can I use the same card in two Clash Royale Clan War decks?
No. Recheck the in-game War Deck screen after every replacement. Spells and tank killers are the most common accidental duplicates because they appear in many archetypes.
What should I do if I cannot make four strong Clan War decks?
Use the two or three complete routes your collection supports, and choose 1v1 or a clan-assigned task when a fourth deck would be filler. Upgrade the missing role across the roster instead of spreading resources across random cards.
