If you’re a fan of Clubs, you might’ve already noticed how FC 26 has completely changed the way we progress. I’m talking about Archetypes system, a completely new way to progress and develop distinct players. At first, this whole new system feels confusing for many, but here is the only FC 26 Archetypes guide you need to completely understand this new progression system!
What Are Archetypes in EA FC 26
Archetypes provide a brand-new progression system for both Clubs and Career in FC 26. Previously, we had to earn skill points through leveling up and later invest these points into upgrading various skill trees. However, in FC 26, this system has changed.
When you first start, you must pick one of the 13 Archetypes. This initial Archetype serves as a foundation for your player. Later, you can choose to unlock different Archetypes depending on the style you’re going for.
All Archetypes are inspired by ICONs, allowing you to build with options that perfectly fit your style.
Let’s take the Magician Archetype for example. This one is inspired by Ronaldinho and this Archetype offers amazing ball control, dribbling and vision to your player. Technical and Finesse Shot are this Archetype’s Signature PlayStyles.
If you’re looking for a way to create chances out of very little, then Magician is the first Archetype you must go with.
Similarly, the rest of the 12 Archetypes are also inspired by ICONs and offer different PlayStyles, Perks and Specializations.
Now that you have a basic understanding of Archetypes, let’s deep-dive into how to unlock them!
How to Unlock Archetypes in EA FC 26 Clubs
As I mentioned before, when you first create your player, you must select your first foundation Archetype. You now have 12 more Archetypes that can be unlocked by using Clubs Coins, FC Points and Consumables.
So, what should you use to unlock them? I’d say that it’s completely a personal preference and it depends on whether you’re an F2P or someone who doesn’t mind spending money.
Unlocking Archetypes with Clubs Coins in EA FC 26
To unlock more Archetypes with your FC coins, start by going to My Pro and then select Enter Archetypes. Here, you will find all of the available Archetypes. Make sure to go through each one and understand what it offers before you unlock them.
Select the Archetype that suits your style and that you want to unlock. On the right-hand side, you will find three different options under “Unlock Archetype.”
Proceed by selecting the “Use 25,000” option to unlock a new Archetype with your Clubs Coins.
This option is best for players who actively play Clubs matches and earn coins. Great for grinders who love to progress through gameplay rather than spending money.
Unlocking Archetypes with FC Points in EA FC 26
Follow the same steps as above to go to the Archetypes screen. Proceed by clicking on the “Use 200” option to unlock your new Archetype with your FC Points.
If you’re someone who doesn’t mind spending real money to progress, then unlocking new Archetypes with FC Points might be the best option for you.
This is the fastest way to unlock more Archetypes and it is the best option for someone who doesn’t like grinding matches. If you have any spare FC Points left around, you can also choose to unlock new Archetypes with them.
Unlocking Archetypes with Consumables/Tokens in EA FC 26
Consumables or Tokens, you can call them anything you want. “Consumables” is a broader term and within these Consumables, you have something called “Archetype Unlocks” that allow you to obtain any locked Archetype.
To unlock an Archetype using a Consumable, follow the same steps as above and simply select the third option.
You can obtain these Consumables from the Clubs Store or unlock them through the Season Pass and objective rewards.
If you’re a regular in the Clubs mode and love finishing all the objectives and Season Pass challenges, then this is the best way to unlock more Archetypes for you.
That’s how you unlock all Archetypes in EA FC 26 Clubs. Now comes leveling up or progressing through your Archetypes. This is where the real game begins!
Why Level Up Archetypes in EA FC 26 Clubs
By leveling up your Archetypes, you will receive various kinds of rewards to help upgrade your attributes and abilities.
- Attribute Points are one such reward that can be used to upgrade the player attributes. This further helps you to unlock more PlayStyles or Specializations.
- You can also upgrade Signature PlayStyles: Each Signature PlayStyle can be upgraded to PlayStyle+ and to further customize your Archetype, you can also unlock more PlayStyle Slots.
- To make your Archetype stand out and define how your player performs on the field, you can unlock Signature Perks.
Upgrading Attributes with AP (Attribute Points)
Every time you level up your Archetype, you earn Attribute Points. You can use these points to upgrade any attribute you want. The cost to upgrade the same attribute increases every time you level it up, making the process more challenging and your grind more rewarding.
All attribute upgrades are permanent. However, you can reset these points, get all the points back to your wallet and reallocate all of them using Clubs Coins or Reset Consumables.
Upgrading Signature PlayStyles and PlayStyle Slots
You already know that every Archetype comes with a set of Signature PlayStyles based on the ICON it’s inspired from. These PlayStyles unlock automatically when you get that Archetype. But to upgrade them to PlayStyle+, you need to keep progressing in Clubs using that specific Archetype.
Each Archetype levels up separately, so if you switch between too many early on, it can slow down your overall progress.
Thanks to the new Archetype system, we also have Customizable PlayStyle Slots that allow us to further refine the chosen Archetype to match our style.
As you keep playing with a selected Archetype and progress, the number of PlayStyle slots will increase. In these new unlocked slots, you can assign more PlayStyles. But keep in mind, PlayStyles that are assigned to these particular slots will not upgrade to the PlayStyle+ version.
Now, to unlock more PlayStyles or to assign new ones to the slots, we must go back to upgrading attributes. Every PlayStyle has specific attribute requirements before you can unlock and equip it.
Take the Finesse Shot PlayStyle for example: to unlock and equip it, you must meet the following attribute requirements.
- 80 Vision
- 75 Finishing
- 80 Curve
Specializations
Specializations are another key reason to level up Archetypes. Specializations will branch out from every Archetype and introduce three unique variants. This helps us to refine and develop our Archetype even further.
When you unlock a Specialization, you get an additional Signature Perk and also an additional Signature PlayStyle+ that can be assigned to one of your unlocked slots.
Let’s take the Magician Archetype for example once again. With Specializations, you can branch out to
- Magician+ to get the First Touch+ Signature PS and the One Two Signature Perk.
- HotShot to get the Power Shot+ Signature PS and the Cut and Shoot Signature Perk.
- Invader to get the Incisive Pass+ Signature PS and the Silver Platter Signature Perk.
Now that you know why it’s important to level up your Archetypes in FC 26 Clubs, here’s how to do it.
How to Level Up Archetypes in EA FC 26 Clubs
Leveling up Archetypes in FC 26 Clubs is pretty straightforward. To level up an Archetype, simply equip it and start playing matches. All the experience that you gain in a match will be rewarded to you in the form of Archetype XP (AXP) and Attribute Points (AP).
The best way to earn lots of AXP and level up your Archetype is by playing League Matches and Live Events. Skill Games are also a great option, where you have to use your Archetype and finish a series of challenges to earn weekly AXP.
Once you have enough AP, go to the Archetype you want to upgrade and click on Edit. Here, you can use your points to edit and upgrade your attributes. As mentioned before, the cost of AP to level up an attribute will increase the more you upgrade it.
I recommend spending your points to upgrade Key Attributes, these are marked in green. Every Archetype has Key Attributes and you must focus on upgrading these first.
Press LB and RB to switch between Attributes, PlayStyles and Specializations to upgrade attributes, equip more PlayStyles and further refine your Archetype.
Our Take
Start by choosing the right foundation Archetype and stick to it. Master this Archetype before you go to another one. Switching between Archetypes will simply slow down your progress because every Archetype progresses independently.
Focus on upgrading Key Attributes and go for Specializations once you become an advanced player.
Unlock more Archetypes using Clubs Coins through gameplay; this is the most viable way. If you want to unlock them faster and skip the grind, then unlock using FC Points.
