Mortenax Blade's banner is live in HSR Version 4.3 Phase 1. If you are planning to fully build him, the grind starts now. The total material investment to take Mortenax Blade from Level 1 to Level 80 with all traces maxed is substantial, and the credits alone will make you reconsider every other upgrade you were planning. This guide covers everything you need to farm, where to get it, and in what order to prioritise it.

Mortenax Blade Ascension Materials
Taking Mortenax Blade from Level 1 to Level 80 requires six ascension breakthroughs. Here is the breakdown per phase so you know exactly what is coming and when.
| Ascension Level | Materials Required |
| Level 20 | Whimsy Wax ×5, Credits ×4,000 |
| Level 30 | Whimsy Wax ×10, Credits ×8,000 |
| Level 40 | Radiant Prominence ×3, Dreamweave Steel ×6, Credits ×16,000 |
| Level 50 | Radiant Prominence ×7, Dreamweave Steel ×9, Credits ×40,000 |
| Level 60 | Radiant Prominence ×20, Lucid Awl ×6, Credits ×80,000 |
| Level 70 | Radiant Prominence ×35, Lucid Awl ×9, Credits ×160,000 |
Total ascension cost: 65 Radiant Prominence, 15 Dreamweave Steel, 15 Whimsy Wax, 15 Lucid Awl, and 308,000 Credits.
Radiant Prominence: Farm This First
Radiant Prominence is your primary bottleneck for ascension. All 65 copies come from the Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Ashes, located in "Sanctum of Prophecy" Janusopolis on Amphoreus. At maximum Equilibrium Level, you get 5 per run, meaning you need 13 runs at 30 Trailblaze Power each, totalling 390 Trailblaze Power. This should be the very first thing you spend stamina on. It is pure single-source farming with no RNG on the material itself, and clearing it early gives you the breathing room to focus on trace materials after. Radiant Prominence can also be exchanged via the Synthesizer if you are short on a specific tier.

Common Enemy Drops: Whimsy Wax, Dreamweave Steel, and Lucid Awl
These three drop from enemies across the Planarcadia map in the Divergent Universe and Simulated Universe. The combined trace and ascension requirement is:
- Whimsy Wax: 48 total
- Dreamweave Steel: 61 total
- Lucid Awl: 43 total
If you have been playing consistently since Planarcadia launched, there is a good chance you already have a healthy stockpile. If not, the fastest ways to top up are:
- Run the relevant Divergent Universe or Simulated Universe stages daily
- Set Whimsy Wax to your passive Assignment slot for passive income overnight
- Use the Omni-Synthesizer to convert excess lower-tier drops into Lucid Awl if you are short
- Purchase from the Embers Exchange Store if you have surplus Undying Embers

Mortenax Blade Trace Materials
This is where the real grind lives. Trace materials disappear the moment you start upgrading abilities, and Mortenax Blade has expensive requirements across the board.
Phagousa Material Set: Tear, Wine, and Heart of Phagousa
All three tiers of the Phagousa materials drop exclusively from the Calyx (Crimson): Bud of Nihility at "Radiant Scarwood" Grove of Epiphany. Do not farm the Calyx (Crimson): Bud of Nihility at the Alchemy Commission or Great Mine by mistake - all three share the same type name but drop entirely different materials. The one you want is specifically the Calyx (Crimson): Bud of Nihility at "Radiant Scarwood" Grove of Epiphany.
Total required:
- Tear of Phagousa: 12
- Wine of Phagousa: 53
- Heart of Phagousa: 101
The Heart of Phagousa requirement is the largest single material count in his entire build at 101 copies. If a double- or triple-drop event is active during Version 4.3, prioritise farming this Calyx during that window because it will dramatically reduce the stamina cost. Traces are the most time-consuming part of any build, and knocking this out early makes the rest feel manageable.

Daythunder Anamnesis: Weekly Boss Material
You need 9 copies of Daythunder Anamnesis total. This drops from the Echo of War: Glance of Twilight by defeating Sublime, Radiant, Avatar of the Sky, located in "Fortress of Dome" Eye of Twilight on Amphoreus. At maximum Equilibrium Level, you get 2 to 3 per run, meaning you need around 3 to 4 weekly clears. Since Echo of War resets weekly, you can do all three available runs in one sitting each week. Plan accordingly so you are not waiting extra weeks because you forgot to run it.

Tracks of Destiny: Do Not Waste These
You need 6 Tracks of Destiny total to fully upgrade his traces. These are the most time-gated resource in the game. Sources include:
- Simulated Universe progression rewards
- Nameless Honor (Battle Pass) rewards
- Embers Exchange Store
Tracks of Destiny are shared across all characters, so if Mortenax Blade is your priority pull for this patch, stop spending them on secondary upgrades until you have confirmed you have at least 6 saved. Running out of Tracks of Destiny is one of the most frustrating things that can happen mid-build because there is simply no way to rush more of them.

Mortenax Blade Signature Light Cone: Reforged in Hellfire
Reforged in Hellfire is Mortenax Blade's dedicated 5-star Nihility Light Cone and his strongest option by a wide margin. It passively increases his Max HP by 30%, regenerates 20 Energy at the start of each wave, and when he uses his Skill on an enemy it inflicts the Purgatory state. While Purgatory is active, the target takes increased CRIT DMG from all sources, with an additional multiplier from Mortenax Blade's own attacks. This synergizes directly with his Zone-based Skill spam rotation and HP-scaling damage model, making it a worthwhile pull alongside him if you have the Stellar Jade for it.

Reforged in Hellfire Leveling Materials
The following materials are required to take the Light Cone from Level 1 to Level 80. These overlap with his character materials, so if you are levelling both together, factor in the combined totals listed below the table.
| Material | Total Required (LC Level 1–80) |
| Whimsy Wax | 20 |
| Dreamweave Steel | 20 |
| Lucid Awl | 14 |
| Tear of Phagousa | 4 |
| Wine of Phagousa | 12 |
| Heart of Phagousa | 15 |
| Credits | 385,000 |
If you are levelling both the character and the Light Cone to Level 80, the combined material totals are: Whimsy Wax ×68, Dreamweave Steel ×81, Lucid Awl ×57, Tear of Phagousa ×16, Wine of Phagousa ×65, Heart of Phagousa ×116, and approximately 4,272,800 Credits.

XP Books and Credits: The Silent Drain
It is easy to overlook these until you are suddenly 2 million Credits short mid-build.
- Traveler's Guide: 289 required (from Calyx (Golden): Bud of Memories)
- Adventure Log: 3 required
- Travel Encounters: 3 required
- Credits: approximately 3,887,800 total for the character alone; approximately 4,272,800 combined with the Light Cone
The credit cost is especially brutal. Nearly 3.9 million Credits just for the character taken to full build is genuinely painful, especially if you are also running relics on other units. Think carefully about whether other upgrades are worth delaying. The XP books themselves are straightforward to farm from the Calyx (Golden): Bud of Memories daily, but 289 Traveler's Guides will take consistent daily farming to accumulate if you are starting from zero. If you want to speed up your stamina refills and farm more runs per day, you can use a Honkai: Star Rail recharge to top up with Oneiric Shards and get ahead of the grind.
Mortenax Blade Material Farming Priority Order
Given the volume of materials needed, here is the order we recommend:
- Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Ashes ("Sanctum of Prophecy" Janusopolis) first to lock in all 65 Radiant Prominence before anything else
- Calyx (Crimson): Bud of Nihility - "Radiant Scarwood" Grove of Epiphany for Phagousa materials, especially Heart of Phagousa
- Echo of War: Glance of Twilight for Daythunder Anamnesis across available weekly clears
- Calyx (Golden): Bud of Memories daily for Traveler's Guide XP books
- Divergent Universe / Simulated Universe runs for Whimsy Wax, Dreamweave Steel, and Lucid Awl to fill remaining gaps
- Save Credits aggressively and pause all non-essential trace upgrades on other characters immediately
What Relics to Farm
The new Divine-Querying Master Smith relic set is available now in Version 4.3 from the Cavern of Corrosion: Path of Insight and is Mortenax Blade's best-in-slot option by a significant margin. Prioritise farming it once your character build materials are covered. For a full breakdown of how each set performs and which Planar Ornament to pair with it, refer to our Mortenax Blade build guide.
- Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters is an excellent placeholder. Mortenax Blade maintains debuffs on all enemies through his Zone naturally, so the 4-piece uptime is essentially permanent. If you have good Pioneer pieces already, put them on him immediately after pulling.
- Longevous Disciple works well as a bridge set if you have leftover pieces from previous characters. The CRIT Rate on the 4-piece is triggered constantly since he consumes HP and takes hits regularly inside his Zone.
- For Planar Ornaments, Bone Collection's Serene Demesne (available from Divergent Universe: Unceasing Strife) is his permanent best-in-slot. Farm this whenever you have leftover stamina from other priorities since good substat pieces here will carry over even after you have the Master Smith set.
Conclusion
Mortenax Blade's material requirements in HSR are on the heavier side, but nothing here is unmanageable with consistent play throughout the patch. Radiant Prominence from the Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Ashes and Heart of Phagousa from the Calyx (Crimson): Bud of Nihility at "Radiant Scarwood" Grove of Epiphany are your two biggest time investments. Get those running first and the rest will fall into place. The weekly boss for his trace material is the Echo of War: Glance of Twilight featuring Sublime, Radiant, Avatar of the Sky, dropping Daythunder Anamnesis - make sure you are not accidentally running an older Echo of War domain.
If you pulled Reforged in Hellfire alongside him, remember it shares Whimsy Wax and Phagousa materials with his character build, so plan your combined totals accordingly. The Credits are the one thing you genuinely cannot rush, so pause non-essential upgrades on other characters and start setting those aside right now.
