Pokémon GO December Super Week Breakdown

Winter blues? Forget them, Trainers. Niantic is dropping so much content at the start of December 2025 that the community is officially dubbing it Pokémon GO  December Super Week. If you planned to take a break after the Final Justice incident, you may want to cancel. From December 2–9, three massive updates land at once: a new generation release, a fresh competitive season, and the Best of 2025 Community Day weekend. It’s going to be chaos, but we’ve combed through the datamines and official posts to help you focus your grind.

The guide to Pokémon GO's December Super Week is your in-depth, comprehensive resource.

Tuesday, Dec 2: The "Precious Paths" Era Begins

The chaos begins on Tuesday at 10:00 AM with a full season shift. “Max Out” ends, and the Season of Precious Paths runs through March 3, 2026. The biggest change is the massively improved Research Breakthrough box. After years of dull weekly rewards, Niantic finally upgraded the pool with Galarian Mr Mime, Lapras, Snorlax, Sinistea, Dreepy, and—best of all—Honedge. For anyone still struggling to evolve Aegislash, free Honedge candy from daily stamps is a huge win.

For PvP players, the GO Battle League rank reset hits at 1:00 PM PST with meta-shaking move updates. Ice-types are the season’s biggest winners thanks to buffs to Powder Snow and Icicle Spear, making Walrein and Alolan Sandslash far scarier. Regidrago now learns Vice Grip, and Dudunsparce gains Body Slam, potentially elevating both from memes to real spice picks. If you’re into PvP, start battling early to take advantage of the unranked chaos.

Journey to Paldea: The Salt God Arrives

Running alongside the season launch is the Journey to Paldea event, which finally expands the Paldea region roster. The headline act here is the debut of Nacli, Naclstack, and the absolute tank Garganacl. In the main series games, Garganacl is a defensive monster known for its signature ability "Purifying Salt." In Pokémon GO, this translates to incredible bulk. We expect Garganacl to be an immediate "brick wall" in the Great and Ultra Leagues, functioning similarly to Bastiodon but with better coverage. You will want to Pinap Berry every Nacli you see to hit that 125-candy evolution cost as fast as possible.

Yet, one significant pitfall should be avoided in this Pokémon GO  December Super Week launch. Shiny Nacli is not yet on the market, as many other events have been recently. Waste not your raid passes in the pursuit of a shining that is not there. Rather, invest your efforts in more genuine boosted shinies in the event: Larvitar and Bagon. These pseudo-legendaries will be changing days (Larvitar on Dec 2/4/6/8; Bagon on Dec 3/5/7/9). This is your best grind of the year, should you still be in need of a high-IV Mega Tyranitar or Mega Salamance.

Thursday, Dec 4: The Ice Dragon Returns

Ice Dragon

The Pokémon GO  December Super Week is a significant change in the Raid Gyms at the time of the cold weather, and it begins at 10:00 AM. Until December 13, Kyurem goes back to 5-Star Raids. Although Kyurem is a good Ice/Dragon attacker in its own right, it is the future that is hyped. The anticipation of the eventual fusion of Black/White forms is already being worked on with veteran players farming candy now. In case Black Kyurem is released, having a similar fusion system to Necrozma, you will need 30 or more candies per fusion. Plough it now before it is too late.

The only difference is that Mega Raid is replaced by Mega Gyarados to join Kyurem. It is a business opportunity. Mega Gyarados is a Water/Dark type, and it occupies an enormous area of Community Day spawns. By having a Mega Gyarados at the weekend, you will have a bonus candy in both Water types (Totodile, Quaxly, Oshawott) and Dark ones (Deino, Galarian Zigzagoon). Without the necessary mega energy, at least once per week raid.

The Weekend: December Community Day Recap (Dec 6 & 7)

The anchor of the Pokémon GO December Super Week is undoubtedly the December Community Day Recap on December 6 and 7. As is tradition, this weekend brings back every Pokémon featured in a Community Day during 2025, but the schedule is split.

The Global Bonuses (Both Days):

  • 2x Catch XP, Stardust, and Candy.
  • 1/2 Hatch Distance: This is the time to pop those 10km eggs you've been saving.
  • Featured Attacks: Evolving specific Pokémon from Saturday 9 AM to Sunday 9 PM will grant their exclusive Community Day moves.

Saturday, Dec 6: The Starter Grind

Saturday is reserved for the early-year stars such as the Karrablast, Shelmet and the Paldean starters (Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Pawmi). Being it, Meowscarada should come first to you. With Frenzy Plant, it becomes one of the best PvE Grass attackers in the game and a menacing closer in PvP. Also, do not sleep on Skeledirge. Its signature move Torch Song (or strictly Blast Burn for this event), combined with its bulk makes it a staple in the Master Premier Cup.

Skeledirge

Sunday, Dec 7: The Dragon Grind

Sunday switches gears to the heavy hitters like Jangmo-o and the region-dependent Flabébé. The star of the show is Kommo-o. This pseudo-legendary Dragon/Fighting type is a beast in all three leagues. Its exclusive move, Clanging Scales, is a debuffing nuke that makes it viable even in Master League. You will want to grind XL candy for this dragon all afternoon.

The Hidden Gem: Feraligatr

There is a secret weapon this weekend. While Totodile is only featured in the "last 10 minutes" of each hour as a Community Day Classic spawn, you can evolve any Croconaw during the event hours to get Hydro Cannon. Shadow Feraligatr with Shadow Claw and Hydro Cannon has been the undisputed MVP of 2025 PvP.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does Garganacl make any use as a PvP or is he a Dex filler?

It is a legitimate meta threat. Early analysis suggests Garganacl functions like a "Bastiodon 2.0" in Great League—an unkillable wall against Flying and Fire types. Prioritise farming the 125 candy during the Journey to Paldea event.

Can I evolve my old Shadow Totodile for Hydro Cannon?

Yes! Any Croconaw evolved during the December Community Day 2025 hours (Sat 9 AM – Sun 9 PM) will learn Hydro Cannon. You do not need to catch a new one, but ensure that frustration is already removed.

Can Nacli be shiny from raids or research?

No. Unlike recent debuts, Shiny Nacli is locked during the Super Week. Do not waste raid passes hunting it; save them for the boosted Shiny Larvitar and Bagon instead.

As December Super Week ramps up, now is the perfect moment to strengthen your journey before the next wave of updates hits. Whether you're preparing teams for Kyurem raids, pushing deeper into the GO Battle League, or gearing up for the December Community Day marathon, having the right resources makes all the difference.
