Tips for Successful Raiding in Clash of Clans

Clash of Clans is all about raiding. It doesn’t matter whether you’re raiding somebody else, or they’re raiding you, it is raiding that makes the CoC world go round.

We know that while raiding is a key part of playing Clash of Clans, some people don’t have a clue what’s going on, despite the game’s best attempt at teaching players. This is why we want to share a few tips for successful base raiding in Clash of Clans. This isn’t a complete guide, just tips we think many players would find useful.

Why Raid?

Raiding is the ‘bread and butter’ of life in Clash of Clans. When you raid you’ll:

  • Quickly gain resources, which will improve your army and your base.
  • Gain achievements, which will lead to Clash of Clans gems and more XP.
  • Enjoy the game. It is the bulk of the gameplay, after all.

Don’t worry if you’re a bit scared of raiding. Everybody is at the start. We promise you that it is easy, and the more you do it, the more fun you’ll have.

Skip Villages

When you are about to instigate a raid, you’ll be shown an image of the village the game has randomly assigned you to raid. Pay attention to this. You can then decide whether it is the right village for you to attack. If it isn’t, then you can pay gold to randomize a new target. Sometimes it is worth paying the gold.

You want a village with little in the way of defenses (preferably low-level resource collectors) and little in the way of defenses. Basically, you want to get into that base and take the resources as quickly as possible.

If you know base-building techniques in Clash of Clans, it’ll very quickly become easy to spot the flawed bases.

Look for Weak Spots in the Village

You won’t have enough time to attack everything in a Clash of Clans village, so you must prioritize your time in the game. Look for flaws in defenses e.g. gaps in walls that your army can slip through, or weaker resource collectors. Sometimes it is better to go for the ‘smaller’ targets in the game rather than the big ones. You may end up with more resources like that.

Don’t Use Your Whole Army

It is important that you prioritize resources. Throw your whole army into a raid, and you’ll see a lot of deaths. Most people will use 25-50% of their army. The less defended a village is, the less of an army you’ll need to use. The more you play the game, the more you’ll learn how many units you need to throw into your raiding. At the start of your raiding adventures, use about 50%.

Keep Troops Queued In Your Village

Always, always, always have troops queued in your village. There are a few reasons for this.

Firstly – you’ll experience some deaths when raiding. Having troops queued will mean that as soon as the deaths happen, your village will start pumping out new units. It’ll save a small amount of time and means you don’t need to worry about producing new units right after a raid.

Secondly – you’ll be tying up some of your resources in the queued units, which means that there is less for other players to steal from you.

Aim for Smaller Targets

As we said before – aim for the smaller, easier targets. While you may have your eye on that well-defended large resource collector, it’ll take ages to take down. Instead, go for the smaller, less defended ones and you’ll end up with more resources.

Use Barbarians and Archers

New raiders should use an army that is a combo of barbarians and archers. About 50% of each. This army is easier to control. Barbarians will take the damage from defending troops, while the archers will be grabbing resources from collectors and storage.

As you expand your army, you might want to include a few wall-breaking units in there too.

Over time, minions should be added to the composition for more firepower.
