Madden 24 Tips for Beginners

We’re rolling out some Madden 24 tips and tricks that can bring you success in the field! Some of these might seem like basic lessons and reminders, but the basics are the foundation, after all!

Learn How to Effectively Pass and Catch

The first thing you should practice and master is learning how to be a better passer and catcher. Knowing the effective passes and catches to do at the right moment will immensely improve the level of your game.

There are three types of passes in the game: Lob Pass, Touch Pass, and Bullet Pass. For example, the Bullet Pass is great when there are a lot of defenders on the field and you need to whip the ball quickly to a receiver so none of them can get to it.

Catching a ball also has three types: Possession Catch, Run After the Catch (RAC catch), and Aggressive Catch. Like the passes, they suit a certain situation. For example, the RAC catch will let the receiver catch the ball while striding and continuing to run. It’s a great catch to secure you some extra yards but make sure the receiver is clear to do it.

It’ll take a lot of practice to develop this particular sense and instinct, but quickly scanning the field, finding an open player, and deciding the right pass or catch to do is crucial to improving your plays.

Try Not to Drop Further Back

This is sort of related to the previous tip but deserves its own spotlight. After catching the ball, your instinct might be to move back a little to assess the situation before making your next move (like finding an open receiver). Nope, don’t drop further back! The more you move back, the more you risk getting yardage losses. If you can (and this will need lots of practice), stay in the pocket!

And speaking of the pocket…

Master the Pocket Presence

As mentioned, simply backing away and dropping further back isn’t good. You gotta know where the pressure is coming from, where the players will gather and collapse, and then smartly move away from it. But it will need you to navigate through the pocket, not just move further from it. That is mastering the Pocket Presence.

Admittedly, developing your instinct for it takes lots of practice and observation. But we believe in you! Master the Pocket!

Be Patient When Running

Another thing you’ll need to reel in is your instinct to just zoom away once you have the ball. You gotta have patience when deciding when to run.

Avoid holding the sprint button immediately once you have the ball. This way, you can easily change your direction and avoid the opponents. Be patient and quickly glance at any holes you can go through. Then you can go turbo.

Catch Them Off-Guard with Blitzing

For a quick refresher, blitzing is a specific tactic where you rush to the quarterback opponent to disrupt the opposing team’s pass. This can tackle the quarterback or force them to make a pass quickly.

Usually, the opposing team can spot you attempting this, especially if you keep doing it or making it your go-to move. But if you mix blitzing with your other coverages, it can catch the opposing team off-guard at times. It’s a good ace up your sleeve now and then.

Win with Clock Management

Mastering passes, catches, and the Pocket Presence is great and all, but Clock Management is one of the best Madden 24 tips for beginners to learn.

Yep, time can also be on your side! Know how to effectively drain time for your opponents so they won’t get a chance to get an advantage, score, or turn the tide. Bide your time!

Be Familiar with Player Abilities

Different players have different abilities that they bring to the table (or field, in this case). Make the most of your players by learning their specific abilities and knowing how to incorporate them into your plays.

Say, you like more throw power when you play. Then try to utilize players with the Pass Lead Elite or Set Feet Lead abilities, like Patrick Mahomes or Joe Flacco. Want your running back to have the Evasive ability? Scary Terry is your man! How about the Backfield Master ability, where your running back can get a wider receiver-level route for catching and passing? Try to get players like John Amos and Tiki Barber.
