To explain her role in the Diablo IV story, we’ve put together a helpful explainer to give you a quick overview of her character arc so far.

Lilith: Unveiling the Extraordinary Power of Diablo’s Dark Queen!

Lilith (voiced by Caroline Farber) is the daughter of Mephisto. Alongside Baal and Diablo, Mephisto is one of the three Prime Evils, the most formidable of the seven Great Evils. Lilith’s lineage places her among the most powerful demons. Her story is connected with the creation of Sanctuary, the world in which all four Diablo games take place.

Just like all the other inhabitants of the Burning Hells, Lilith dutifully played her part in the Eternal Conflict. The purpose of the Eternal Conflict was to acquire the Worldstone, an object that can shape realities and destroy entire worlds. The Angels and Demons sought to control it, but no side could gain permanent ownership of it, hence the Eternal Conflict. Lilith eventually grew tired of the never-ending battle. On the other side, the Archangel Inarius had reached the same conclusion. Unaware of each other’s beliefs, the two clashed on the battlefield. Lilith took Inarius prisoner. It was then the two discovered a common ground: to escape the Eternal Conflict. The two unexpected partners in crime gathered adepts and eventually managed to capture the highly sought-after Worldstone. They used it to create the world of Sanctuary, a place where angels and demons could escape the enduring war. The pair populated this newly-created world with their offspring, the Nephalem.
The story of Diablo 4 focuses on Lilith and Inarius. The Wanderer (your character) chases her all over the world and beyond as part of the main campaign. Follow the main quest and you will eventually meet your maker.

Why is Lilith against players?

Technically, Lilith is not at all against the players. It’s just that you stand in her way. What is her way? Let’s find out! Lilith was always protective of her creations. So protective that she got banished to the void by Inarius. Gone but never forgotten. The introductory Diablo 4 trailer shows Lilith’s fervent follower Elias performing the ritual that summons her back into the world she had created. Lilith plans to get rid of the Prime Evils once and for all with the help of the Lesser Evils. She also plans on consuming the essence of Mephisto and claiming Hell’s throne for herself. Sanctuary’s residents are caught in Lilith’s plans ultimately suffering more death and destruction. That’s why the players oppose her. Inarius is after her as well. He seeks to end Lilith in an attempt to regain entrance to Heavens. Spoiler: he fails!

How to beat Lilith

After a long hunt, at the end of Act VI, we come face to face with the Blessed Mother herself. The battle we’ve all been waiting for since Diablo 4 was first unveiled in 2019 finally takes place. Being the last boss, Lilith poses challenges to unprepared Wanderers. Let’s see a couple of tips and a short strategy guide to make the rendezvous with the Queen of the Succubi as smooth as possible. Lilith is a level 45 boss. You should be at least the same level as her. Consumables make a difference. Like most of hell’s spawns, Lilith likes to play with fire, so fire-resistance elixirs are recommended. Having some AOE attack is of tremendous help, as you will deal with summons throughout the fight.

This is a two-phase encounter with a checkpoint save after the first phase. Phase 1 starts with Lilith using three main attacks. She does melee damage with her wings. From a distance, she sends flames through the cracks in the floor. Her third move is to summon spikes that travel in a wave formation. All three attacks can and should be avoided. However, as the fight progresses things get hectic. That’s why you should be ready with consumables. Your priority is to avoid damage, so don’t make any rush moves. After a while, she positions herself in the middle of the arena, flies up in the air, and calls on minions. Focus on finishing them all while dodging her intensifying attacks.
In Phase 2, the Daughter of Hatred puts red puddles on the floor. Do your best to avoid them and the projectiles they trigger. In addition to her wings, she also uses her tail. You don’t want to be in the section of the arena she flies over as you will take massive fire damage. Be careful to avoid the side of the arena that eventually crumbles. When Lilith returns to the center, get out of the vortex as soon as possible. Be aware of your positioning as you will have limited space to move around. The moves repeat until the boss is down.
