How to Craft in PoE

Path of Exile is one of the most popular ARPGs of all time, and many consider it the best example of this genre created thus far. The game offers a meaty story mode, seven playable classes (each branching into several sub-classes), an awe-inspiring passive skill tree, a grim world to explore, and of course: unlimited hours of RnG-induced fun, playing solo or with up to 5 other online players.

What sets it apart from other games of this ilk is PoE’s unique approach to currencies. In PoE, players don’t gather gold or any other type of currency usually associated with interacting with NPCs and merchants. Instead, players collect various types of orbs that act as currency, with the rarer orbs fetching a higher value.

Orbs are also the only way to craft in PoE or modify an existing item. So, here’s how to craft in Path of Exile:

Collecting Resources for Crafting in PoE

When playing the game, players will collect all sorts of gear in Path of Exile, either as loot from defeated enemies or as rewards for completing quests. Weapons, armor, jewelry, etc. – are all categories of equipable items that grant various bonuses and stat boots. Those items come in several tiers of rarity: normal, magic, rare, and unique items.

Unsurprisingly, the higher the rarity of an item, the better its stats are, determining how useful that item is for your character. This is a quick rundown of the four-item categories:

  1. Normal items – they’re denoted by a white color and grant no affixes;
  2. Magic items – these are denoted by a blue color and spawn with one prefix and one suffix;
  3. Rare items – denoted with a yellow color rare and grant three prefixes and three suffixes);
  4. Unique items – the rarest type of items, denoted with an orange color and granting a varying number of affixes as well as special effects.

Which item you’ll get as a world drop relies purely on chance, though some bonuses of your currently equipped gear may slightly increase your chances of finding better loot.

But, aside from gear, players will also find orbs in Path of Exile. As mentioned before, orbs are the key items that make playing PoE such a fulfilling experience. There are a handful of orbs, and each has a specific use that can potentially vastly improve your gear in an instant – but that too, is in the realm of chance.

Nevertheless, you’ll collect tons of orbs simply by playing this free-to-play title. Once you have a full bag of different kinds of orbs, you can embark on prolonged crafting and trading sessions amidst PoE’s bustling online community.

How to Craft in Path of Exile

As is with the other types of items in PoE, orbs too come in several tiers of rarity and act as both consumables and the game’s main currency. Below is a list of the most used types of orbs in PoE (note that this is not a complete list since the game is always evolving with new seasons introducing temporary changes and special events).

In short, PoE craft happens when you use an orb to alter an existing item in your inventory regardless of its rarity, which in turn results in the creation of a different item. Here’s how it works:

-Orb of Transmutation: This is the type of orb you’ll most often find in PoE. Apply it on a normal (white) item to turn it into an item of magic (blue) rarity with one random affix. In other words, you’ll craft a blue-rarity item out of a normal-rarity one;

-Orb of Alteration: Use it to grant added bonuses to an existing item of magic rarity (blue item). The number and type of affixes and prefixes you get is up to chance;

-Chromatic Orb: Apply it on any weapon or armor to change the type of sockets it has;

-Jeweller’s Orb: Apply it on any weapon or armor to change the number of sockets it has;

-Orb of Augmentation: Adds one more affix to an existing blue item;

-Regal Orb: Use this on a magic (blue) item to craft a rare (yellow) one. In other words, Regal Orbs upgrade magic items in a way that the created rare item inherits all of the affixes, with one random one being added as well;

-Orb of Alchemy: Apply it on a normal (white) item to create a rare (yellow) one. This orb allows you to skip the magic (blue) tier or rarity entirely;

-Chaos Orb: Use it on a rare (yellow) item to completely re-roll its affixes and suffixes. The results are always randomized;

-Vaal Orb: A rare type of orb that will corrupt an existing item of whichever rarity. It’s up to chance whether this will improve or ruin the item’s value;

-Orb of Scouring: Use it to remove all affixes from an item, while preserving its current sockets, their color, and links;

-Exalted Orb: This is one of the rarest and thus, most valuable currencies in Path of Exile. It adds an affix to an existing rare (yellow) item.

Using the Crafting Bench in PoE

All throughout the game’s world, players can unlock various hideouts that act as safe havens. The Crafting Bench is one of the most useful interactable objects present in any hideout, and it allows players to further modify an item by spending orbs. However, unlike when used within the player’s inventory, spending an orb on the crafting bench grants other types of bonuses.

For example, you can add a prefix like “+ 25% maximum life” to an item that doesn’t have a prefix of that type yet, for the price of one Orb of Alteration. Similarly, you could add a suffix like “+ 20% to Cold Resistance” to a weapon or armor by spending one Orb of Transmutation.

The list of such recipes is long, and as players level up and unlock later areas, more and more options will start to appear in the Crafting Bench. As such, this is a reliable method to solidify the usefulness of a favorite item.

Craft of Exile

While we’ve covered the basics of crafting in PoE above, that rabbit hole runs deep indeed. There are many rules influencing how effective any crafting attempt will end up being. Of course, the vast majority of the time when you try to improve an item in a specific manner (and really hope that you won’t spend valuable resources in vain); you’ll only create an item fit for an entirely different character…

Luckily, Craft of Exile is a popular online tool where you can learn of ways to “ensure” more favorable results from item crafting in PoE. It also allows you to simulate the potential results of using a specific type of orb on a specific piece of gear. That way, you can discover the overall odds of getting the desired result out of the crafting method you want to use.

Thus, Craft of Exile is an advanced tool that takes into account all of Path of Exile’s crafting intricacies and factors, including the item’s ilvl, possible modpools, etc. So, whenever you’re hesitant to spend resources in the hopes of modifying an item, consider consulting Craft of Exile.

If you don’t want to waste your time and resources, then Path of Exile Items provided at U7BUY will also be a good choice for you.
