We always love it when new adventure maps get launched on Minecraft, especially when they are designed by professionals. We especially loved it when the Universal Studios Experience DLC for Minecraft was announced, since Universal Studios is, without a doubt, one of our favorite theme parks. Having tested the DLC, we can assure you that it lives up to the hype, so go redeem your Minecoins gift card (or buy one), because you’ll want your Minecraft avatar wearing the best gear as you explore this map.
The Universal Studios Experience Map
For the uninitiated, Universal Studios is a major theme park in the US. There are actually a couple of Universal Studios in the US, with this adventure map being based on the Florida version of the theme park.
At the moment, details on how Universal Studios and Minecraft teamed up for the DLC are rather scant. However, we reckon that Universal Studios is attempting to run a sort of promotion for the theme park, which makes sense since theme park season is coming in thick and fast, with many people starting to plan their summer vacations.
The Universal Studios map is meant to show off some of the experiences that you can enjoy at Universal Studios. The bulk of the map is a decent replica (albeit a blocky one) of what it is like to wander around the theme park. You can tell a lot of love has been poured into making the experience look as wonderful as possible.
Throughout the map, the player will find a wealth of different mini-games (more on those soon) begging to be played. These mini-games are based upon some of the biggest attractions at Universal Studios.
Since this is a decently sized map, it is suitable for individual players, as well as those who want to drag their friends along for the ride and enjoy one of the best theme park experiences we’ve ever seen in Minecraft.
At the moment, there is no telling how long the Universal Studios map will remain in the game. We do hope it is something that will remain forever, but we know that because many of these maps are paid promotions, they may eventually disappear. So, if you want to experience the amazing Universal Studios map, it is best to do it sooner rather than later. Thankfully, once you’ve added it to your account (find it in the in-game Minecraft store), it is yours to complete forever.
The Universal Studios Experience Gameplay
There are two parts to the Universal Studios Experience.
Throughout the map, there is a quest that you need to complete – find the letters that have disappeared from the Universal Studios Globe at the front of the park.
In order to find the missing letters for the theme park logo, you’ll need to complete tons of different mini-games. As we said – all of these mini-games are based on major Universal Studios attractions. Along the way, you’ll have a chat with some cool Universal Studios characters too, including Shrek, and Frankenstein’s Monster (seriously, a lot of love has been poured into this game).
There are a lot of secrets on this map, and we don’t want to spoil everything, but we’ll let you know about the mini-games.
- Skull Island: Reign of Kong will have you heading into the jungle where you need to track down King Kong. Plenty of other monsters will be trying to stop your mission, though.
- Run from dinosaurs in rides inspired by Jurassic Park. In fact, this is one of the best Jurassic Park-inspired maps we’ve ever seen, even if it is only a short part of the experience.
- If you can brave it, head deep into the tunnels of Ancient Egypt, where you’ll be chased by a Mummy. This experience is based on the famous The Mummy movie (starring Brendan Fraser).
- You can also head into space (and perhaps call home) with E.T.
- Why not travel into the past with Back to the Future – The Ride? This is a tremendous inclusion since the ride has been long removed from the theme park, but many people have happy adventures in it.
