Who Is Honkai: Star Rail’s Best F2P Support

Veterans of the game might not use her much, but Asta is one of the F2P characters that you CAN use from start to endgame very easily and not regret your choice. While her maximum potential is locked behind her 6th Eidolon which you can get through Star Rail top up services and pulling a lot, she’s a really good unit even at E0, and we’ll break down some of her skills, weapons, and best teams in this guide!

Astas Kit and Why She is So Good

Asta just gives so much value thanks to her passive and her ultimate since both are really good stat boosts for your whole team.

  • At level 10, her astronomy talent gives your whole team 14% ATK, stacking up to 5 times which equals 70% ATK at 5 stacks. Read that again – SEVENTY PERCENT ATK. And it’s practically free.
  • Her ultimate gives your whole team a 50 SPD Stat boost for two turns, is anything more needed to be said about this? SPD is a very valuable stat in Honkai Star Rail – at most, your characters will usually have around 100 Base SPD without any modifiers, and she boosts that by basically 50% with her Ultimate.

She practically doesn’t have to do anything else aside from these two things and she’d be good, but wait – there’s more. She is also incredibly great at breaking enemies that are weak to fire and applying Burn to them.

Since we already mentioned her Talent and Ultimate, her Skill is the last thing we’ll talk about here – and it’s a pretty decent one. The ability deals Fire damage equal to 50% of Astas attacks 5 times. If there’s more than one enemy, the 4 attacks after her first one will target random enemies.

Her Main Drawback

Asta needs a LOT of Energy. You want to use her ult at least every 3 turns, but if you can’t reach that threshold – don’t fear, since we’ll talk about her best Lightcones and Relics down below, and how you can solve this issue if you don’t have her at higher Eidolon Levels (E4, to be more specific).

Asta Best Lightcones

As previously mentioned, Asta needs a lot of energy. This can be solved by getting her Eidolon 4 which gives her a 15% Energy Regeneration Rate.

Even then, she still needs quite a bit of ER and there are two Lightcones that solve this problem relatively easily, and both are F2P except one is gotten through gacha, and the other is a bit easier since it’s a 3-star Lightcone.

Let’s talk about Memories of the Past

This Lightcones effect gives the wearer an increased Break Effect (28% – 56%) which is an amazing stat for Asta, but more importantly – it allows her to generate more energy (4-8) with every attack, once per turn.

Now, to be completely honest – if you don’t have this Light Cone at Superimposition 5, it’s not going to be very effective. If you got lucky and got enough of these, then you’re good to go as it is one of her best weapons if we don’t count some of the 5-star options.

The Meshing Cogs

Similarly to Memories of the Past, this Light Cone gives Asta the much-needed Energy Recharge, but it works a bit differently and is much easier to get to SI5. Namely, the effect is triggered by getting hit or attacking – but getting hit isn’t in your best interests and the effect can still only be triggered once per turn, no matter if you get hit and attack in the same turn.

Not to mention the fact that it doesn’t have the Break Effect boosting stat…

So, while it is easier to find and rank up, the Memories of the Past are still going to overshadow it.

Asta Best Relics

Now, you could build Asta for some Damage or enhanced break effects with the “Firesmith of Lava-forging” and “Thief of Shooting Meteor” sets, but because she needs SPD and wants to act first, we’d recommend the “Musketeer of Wild Wheat” 4-piece set to give her increased ATK% and increased SPD%.

As for the stats on your Relic pieces, you’d ideally have these:

  • Body: Crit DMG/Crit Rate
  • Boots: Speed
  • Sphere: Fire DMG
  • Rope: Energy Recharge

Astas Best Teams

Now we finally get to the best part of Asta – you can practically put her in any team as a support, and she’ll be good. That’s it. She’s a great overall unit that can benefit practically every team since every team wants ATK% and SPD, but even if you have a team that scales off of DEF and ATK isn’t that good of a stat for that team, you’d still want her incredible team-wide SPD buff and her Weakness Break capabilities.

Conclusion

Asta is an amazing character and the fact that she is F2P and you get her through the story is practically outrageous compared to what you get in Genshin, a game that was also created by Hoyoverse. If you don’t want to pull for her but want her at Eidolon 6, you can always buy a Honkai Star Rail account instead!
