Unveiling PUBG Mobile Maps

PUBG was the title that brought the Battle Royale genre to the top of the gaming industry in 2017, inspiring a slew of developers to work on their versions of that setting. The Battle Royale market has been flourishing since, with games like Fortnite and Apex Legends entering the fray by bringing high-quality content, season after season, without dropping the ball.

In the meantime, the game that started it all made the smart move to expand to mobile devices as well, via the equally popular PUBG Mobile game. This title retained the same level of polish and excitement as the original, prompting many to buy UC and start a match with an advantage.

In this article, we’ll unveil the most popular PUBG Mobile maps, look at their general topography and share tips about properly tackling them. Let’s begin!

Erangel Map: The Strategic Starting Point

Erangel was the map PUBG players were most familiar with back when PUBG Mobile first became available, and it remains synonymous with this game to this day. By featuring a generous amount of forest areas and grass tall enough for hiding, as well as semi-remote buildings with important loot, Erangel captures the essence of what the Battle Royale genre is: players trying to outsmart each other by getting into advantageous positions and holding the ground till the end of the round.

Erangel comprises two islands, with the one in the south being notably smaller than the other. Many urban areas are found in the northern and north-western parts of the bigger island, allowing players to stealthy scavenge for crates without spending too long in the open. In between the settlements, the area is littered with trees and greenery, and there is a narrow river flowing almost in a straight line east-to-west.

The southern island is connected to the rest of the map by only two bridges that are easy to observe from many vantage points on Erangel. Thus, unless you choose that area as your drop location, getting there later is quite dangerous. The Military Base situated on that island is chock-full of items and crates, making it the most popular drop location in Erandel by far. However, sometimes it may be wiser to avoid the crowd, at least at the start of the match.

The Quarry (on the southwestern side of the bigger island) and the School (near the middle of the map) areas are the other recommended drop locations, both offering players optimal means to equip themselves before silently taking out foes. While both of them can get busy at various points of the game, they’re generally safer choices to make compared to landing at the Military Base.

Miramar Map: The Desert Mystery

Miramar’s barren, flat landscape might look off-putting and uneventful at first glance, but this map ends up incredibly potent in terms of thrilling scenarios and grit-fueled victories. It’s a sprawling, 8×8 km map, that almost entirely consists of dry land, save for the three small islands sprinkled at the southern and southeastern edges of the map.

Inland, there are quite a few towns where players battle for loot, but the spaces leading to and from them are long stretches of flat, dusty ground. Therefore, any attempts to relocate to another building must be done briefly and while rushing in zig-zag patterns, unless you make yourself easy prey for a sniper shot.

That emphasizes the importance of long-range combat in Miramar. Getting your hands on a scoped weapon is the goal all players follow at first, but, of course, such weaponry is loud and comes with the caveat of the shooter instantly revealing their presence. Miramar’s most popular drop locations are Los Leones town (near the southeastern part of the map) and the Water Treatment area, due north of the map’s center.

Sanhok Map: Combat in the Jungle Depths

Sanhok is an island map full of lush greenery and wooden barracks containing loot. The island has a circular shape and it’s practically divided into three chunks by the river flowing almost parallel to the map’s prime meridian. Thus, the biggest land area takes up the entire eastern side of the map, while the western portion comprises two smaller islands, with the one at the top-right corner being the most littered with crates.

Players tend to move cautiously across Sanhok, as the map contains a few “jumping” challenges as well. For example, Bhan is a popular point that’s tricky to reach, as it’s surrounded by uneven terrain and perched on a wooden platform. However, getting there is well worth the trouble unless someone beat you to it already.

The Pai Nan town is another bustling location, situated at the intersection point between the map’s two biggest islands. Both sides of this coastal settlement are rich in loot, meaning all players that drop there can walk out well-prepared for the rest of the match.

Other Battle Royale PUBG Mobile Maps

Aside from those three most popular maps, PUBG Mobile fans can also play matches on:

Vikendi – A smaller map reminiscent of a snowy tundra, making it instantly recognizable. The western part of the map contains longer stretches of open land, setting the stage for some heart-stomping sniper duels. Recommended drop locations: Dino Park, Lumber Yard, and Mount Kreznic.

Karakin – This map is limited to 64 players max and pits them against each other on an island only 2×2 km big. Matches here are quite exciting as various Black Zones are randomly deployed before nuking a given point of the map, together with everyone caught looting there. Recommended drop locations: Hadiqa Nemo, Al Habar, and Al Hayik.

Livik – Livik is one of the maps that breaks the usual Battle Royale mold by featuring environmental hazards that severely alter the map’s layout in the later stages of a match. Thus, once the volcano goes off, Livik looks different than before and players will have to learn both versions to be successful. Plus, there are ziplines and a multitude of hidden treasure troves all around Livik, making exploring this 50-player map an attractive endeavor. Recommended drop locations: Iceborg, Hot Springs, and the waterfall area.
