Beginner Tips for Hay Day

Hay Day may initially seem like a relaxing farming sim, but the deeper you dive into this amazing game, the more complicated things become. We want to get you off on the right start, so before you top up Hay Day diamond, read this guide and make sure your Hay Day account is generating in-game cash quickly. It means you’ll get more from your diamonds (you rarely want to use them at the start of the game).

Always Have Seed Crops Ready to Plant

You should always be planting seed crops. This is how you’ll be making most of your cash in the game, plus you’ll need the produce eventually. So, make sure that the seeds are ready to plant at all times so that once you harvest something, you can slot the new seeds in there.

Say No to Visitors

If you’ve got visitors that want to say no to you, then you’ll probably want to say ‘no’ most of the time. You’ll rarely get the best prices like this, and if you do want to sell to those NPCs eventually, they’ll return to your farm.

Try to Fill as Many Orders as Possible

You’ll get regular orders throughout the game. Try to fill as many of them as you can. However, if you feel that you can’t fulfill an order, perhaps because you don’t have the time or the resources to do so, then ditch it. Just dump it right in the in-game trash. You’ll get a new one to replace it eventually.

There’s no sense in leaving your order list filled with things that you’ll not be able to fulfill in the immediate future. You could be losing out on a good amount of in-game cash when you do that.

You Need Both Stars and Coins

A lot of people in Hay Day either focus on stars or coins. Don’t do that. You need both. So, try to get a healthy balance of them coming through on your orders. The stars will help you to level up quicker, unlocking more of the game, while the coins will help you to purchase things, driving further progress.

Don’t Sell Your Materials

At least not at an early stage in the game. If you sell your materials, you’ll be impeding your progress. Materials are needed to upgrade buildings, and if you’ve sold your materials, then you’ll need to find new ones to upgrade important buildings. So, no matter how appealing it is to sell your materials, keep hold of them until you are 100% sure that you won’t need them again.

Wheating

Many of the top players in the game will involve themselves in something known as ‘Wheating’. This is where you’ll only plant wheat crops and as many of them as possible. Experienced players have discovered that wheating will lead to the most resources, gold, and materials. It can also give you a good amount of XP too.

This will be more of a late-game thing, though. You don’t want to be wheating during the first few weeks (or even months) of playing the game, as focusing on completing those in-game orders should be your priority.

Your Gold Priorities

Gold isn’t really free-flowing in Hay Day, and you’ll want to make sure that you spend it in the right way. These should be your priority:

  1. Fishing Boat (available at level 27)
  2. Mine (available at level 24)
  3. Smelter (available at level 24)

You’ll need 35,000 for the fishing boat, 21,000 for the mine, and 12,500 for your first smelter. Get those into your farm, and you’ll be rolling in resources, XP, and gold in no time at all.

Pets

Pets won’t really offer a whole lot to help you level up, but they do drop some great items. So, if you can get a couple of decent pets on your farm, then do so. However, pets should never really be your priority for Hay Day.

Head to Other People’s Farms

Head to the farms of other players and make sure that you browse through their toolboxes. There is a good chance that you’ll find some incredibly useful items. You can also learn how some of the more experienced players have set up their farms, which should give you some ideas that you can use of your own.

Just Play

The more you play, the faster everything goes. So, whenever you get a free moment, jump into Hay Day, collect resources, farm, and just have fun.
