Filled with tight corridors, challenging boss fights and an ominous atmosphere, it’s an excellent homage to a legendary title and one of the most unique creations within Minecraft’s vast ecosystem.
Horizon City – Advanced World
You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, especially in a player-made, suspiciously peaceful Minecraft map. Horizon City is an excellent reminder of that notion, offering a sprawling world that resembles a normal Western city, but only on the surface. Inside this map’s buildings, parks, and sewers, thousands of enemies await you to drop your guard.
Horizon City – Advanced World tasks you with finding 15 special items to find an exit, and doing so requires bravery and dedication. It is a masterfully knitted, rewarding experience that you won’t complete in a single sitting. On a related note, we should also highlight that this map is quite challenging, and can even get daunting to a player simply looking for a relaxing time.
Luigi’s Mansion
Minecraft is the perfect medium to give new life to beloved gaming eras of the past, as confirmed by this particular map. Based on the Gamecube title of the same name, Minecraft’s Luigi’s Mansion shows plenty of respect for Nintendo’s green-hat-wearing ghostbuster.
This reimagining doesn’t deviate much from the source material, weaving the same general premise of finding Mario in a haunted mansion with the aid of Professor E. Gadd. However, due to the cute pixelated aesthetics, this version is a tad scarier but also even more charming, somehow.
Midland – A Red Cross Knights Story
Chasing knighthood is doable in Minecraft as well, all while keeping that Elder Scrolls flag raised high. Midland – A Red Cross Knights Story offers all the 12th-century shenanigans players usually look for, including everything from inns with crackling fireplaces to dark forests full of moving shadows.
Conceived as a quest-driven narrative where players level up and find better gear to keep evil at bay, this map is a sizeable romp through a high-fantasy world. Clash swords with foes, open hidden chests and raise your renown amidst the other Sirs!
Super Voxel Party
Simulating a party game might be a strange choice to act as the basis for a Minecraft map, but Super Voxel Party ends up a triumph nonetheless. Creators Origin_MC and TheNerdyGinger successfully channeled N64’s heyday with this map, offering a unique “blast from the past” without that console’s weirdly shaped controller.
Super Voxel Party is essentially a collection of board games borrowed freely from the various Mario Party titles, down to their soothing color palettes. Up to four players get to roll a dice, plan their movements, and carefully select from a list of minigames to successfully halt another player’s progress. It’s a tried-and-true classic recipe for a good time, and a surprise Minecraft smash hit as well!
HeroFair Amusement Park
Fans of Disneyland and the Super Nintendo World theme park will find plenty to love in this kid-friendly Minecraft map. HeroFair Amusement Park faithfully captures the concept of enjoying a sunny day while trying out different thrill rides, and it all works out spectacularly in Minecraft.
Giant Ferris wheels, gravity-defying roller coasters, and a slew of mini-games make this one a fully-fledged ride! Plus, players can compete against each other in some areas to earn credits, which they can later exchange for cool scooters and plushies.
However, the real draw lies in how well HeroFair Amusement Park simulates riding on a 90+ meters tall roller coaster! The momentum is surprisingly palpable, branching into higher levels of motion and speed rarely encountered in Minecraft.
