Fallout 76 Armor Guide

fallout 76 armor

To be able to withstand the environment outside of Vault 76 and survive in the wasteland, you will need armor.

Fallout 76 Armor is your basic protection gear that will give you resistance from multiple sources, depending on the type of armor you wear.

Five pieces of wearable armor make up an armor set. Your legs, arms, and chest are covered by these components. While every type of armor in the game offers energy and damage protection by default, several unique varieties of armor have extra effects.

Types of Resistance in Fallout 76

Damage, energy, radiation, cryo, poison, and fire resistance are currently the types of resistances in Fallout 76.

As mentioned before, all Fallout 76 armor will give you damage and energy resistance. They will protect against basic damage and also from energy-based damage from weapons like laser pistols.

You can further modify most of these armors with “lead lining” to also get radiation resistance. There are also a couple of armor sets that give you radiation resistance without any modification.

Cryo Resistance helps you reduce the incoming cryo damage from creatures like Floater Freezers or even damage from cryo-based weapons like cryo mines, grenades, etc. To gain cryo resistance, you will need arctic marine armor, warming legendary armor, or warming power armor.

To gain poison Resistance, you need to get your hands on a Fallout 76 power armor called “The Union Power Armor,” which will give you +150 poison resistance. Or you can use perks like “Funky Duds” or consumables like tato or cave fungus soup to gain resistance against poison.

Fire resistance protects you from fire-related damage from Molotovs, mines, or creatures like Floater Flamers. A legendary armor called “Fireproof” grants you +25 fire resistance per piece.

You can also try the “Fireproof” or “Sizzling Style” perks or a modification called Asbestos Lining to reduce the incoming fire damage and increase your fire resistance.

Crafting armor in Fallout 76

You can craft most of the Fallout 76 armor in this game. All you need is a “plan.” Think of it as a blueprint. You can either get these by simply playing the game and completing quests and events or you can even buy them from the vendors with bottle caps. You can buy the required bottle caps from the Best Fallout 76 Shop. You can also find accounts, items and even boosting services for Fallout 76 at the best prices here.

You can also find armor lying around the world for you to pick up. By default, you will be able to craft the leather armor without any plan.

It is very important to choose the right armor to increase your chances of surviving in this game. There are also levels for armor and most armor reaches its peak at levels 45 and 50. You can equip armor either equal to or lower than your level.

Modifying armor in Fallout 76

Modifying your Fallout 76 armor will give you special bonuses, like the radiation resistance example we’ve seen before. There are three types of modification slots: material, misc, and paint.

Paint mod is purely cosmetic and only for appearance purposes. They do not provide any bonuses, so you can customize it however you like.

Material and Misc mods provide bonuses related to resistance and bonuses like increased carry weight, reduced damage, etc.

What is scrapping in Fallout 76?

Scrapping is the process of breaking down unwanted items into components. This feature will also sometimes have a chance to unlock a mod for the associated armor set.

Here is how it works: Whenever you’re scrapping a piece of armor, the game determines all the unlearned mods for that set. It then randomly assigns a percentage for each of the unlearned mods and finally unlocks one.

There is a limit of only one unlock per armor piece scrapped. The more you progress in the game and gain more mods, the harder it gets to unlock the remaining mods.

Crafting, modding, and scrapping can further be enhanced by using a few perks.

Perks for armor crafting and Scrapping in Fallout 76

Armorer: This perk lets you craft advanced armor mods at Rank 1, as long as you have the required plans. Rank 2 lets you craft armor with fewer materials and Rank 3 improves the overall durability of the armor you craft.

Fix It Good: This lets you repair armor and power armor to a maximum of 200%. Rank 1 lets you repair up to 130%; Rank 2 is up to 160%; and finally, Rank 3 gives you the maximum condition of 200%.

White Knight: A perk that makes your armor break much slower, depending on the rank. Rank 1 reduces the speed by 20%, Rank 2 is 40%, and Rank 3 is 60% The Nuclear Winter version of this perk slows down armor breaking by 90%.

The White Knight perk also makes repairing the armor cheaper.

Lucky Break: This perk gives your armor a slight chance to repair itself whenever it takes damage. It is luck-based and the chance increases with every rank. There is also a Nuclear Winter variation that will greatly improve the chance of armor repairing itself.

Super Duper: This perk increases your chances of getting twice as many results crafting, based on a percentage.

Scrapper: When you scrape your armor or weapons, you’ll receive additional components thanks to the scrapper perk.
