Dawntrail – A New Chapter Begins in Final Fantasy XIV
Dawntrail is the fifth expansion of Final Fantasy XIV, which is set to be released around the summer of 2024, as stated by Naoki Yoshida when the trailer was released at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2023 in Las Vegas. The expansion occurs after Endwalker, the final and conclusive chapter in the Hydaelyn-Zodiark Saga, started in A Realm Reborn.
Yoshida also clarified that the expansion is not a “filler arc,” as everyone intends to believe, and will introduce a brand new story, a system overhaul, and a graphical upgrade with the introduction of two new jobs, Viper and Pictomancer! Things to look forward to in the new update
With every new expansion released, it means a new area is present to be explored, with Heavensward venturing the player to the north in Ishgard, Stormblood taking them to Gy Abania, Shadowbringers to an alternate dimension known as the First, one of the thirteen reflections of “The Source” or “Hydaelyn” and Endwalker embarks the player throughout the Garlean Empire and Mare Lamentorum, the moon of “The Source.”
In Dawntrail, the hero’s party, known as the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, ventures into the new continent known as Tural, located west of the Three Great Continents and is called “New World” by the Eorzean inhabitants. Our fan-favorite heroes will visit this land in response to a call for help resolving a succession dispute that threatens their existence.
Keeping the ever-expansive Lore of the game aside, there are significant upgrades present in the upcoming update, such as an increase in the Level Cap from 90 to 100, which applies to all of the jobs and classes. Speaking of jobs, two new jobs will be accessible to the players: Viper, a dual-wielding melee class, and Pictomancer, a magical ranged DPS where the player gets to use paintings to attack enemies!
The female variant of the Hrothgar race will also be unveiled to players with this update. The male Hrothgar race was introduced in the Shadowbringers expansion, but the rarer female Hrothgars will be making an appearance and are said to be the final race addition in Final Fantasy XIV, as discussed by the creators, but they may change their mind in the future regarding this stance.
