While we have put together an epic CoC guide to help you through the single-player part of the game, we know that some of the information can be a bit overwhelming for newer players. So, to make things a little bit simpler for you, we’ve decided to put together a list of some of the top beginner tips for Clash of Clans. So, if you’re brand-new to CoC, or you haven’t played in a while, enjoy! This will help get you started in the best way.
Gold and Elixir Storage is a Priority
You’ll be upgrading a lot when you are playing Clash of Clans, some of it will take a while. Your priority should be gold and elixir storage, at least for a few level upgrades. If you don’t upgrade them early on, then you’ll struggle to have enough space in your storage to cover some of the bigger upgrades later on in the game.
Play the Single Player Campaign
While most of the fun in CoC comes from the PVP aspect, it is important that you don’t neglect the single-player campaign. There are two reasons for this:
- You’ll earn a ton of resources, which you can use to make upgrades to your Clash of Clans base.
- You’ll get some important combat experience in.
Most of the single-player missions work in a similar way to how PVP would work, which should really help to boost your skills without running the same risk that PVP has.
Upgraded Your Storage? Upgrade the Resource Extractors Too!
You won’t be doing much in Clash of Clans without resources, so it is essential that you upgrade your resource extractors whenever you can. Normally, you will hit a limit in the number of resources you can gather to upgrade your storage. At this point, you’ll need to upgrade the resource extractors. You should have enough storage to keep all the new resources you have properly stored, and you’ll now start to earn enough resources to upgrade your storage and defenses even more.
Nail the Basics of a Base Plan
The town hall will be at the center of your base, with the resource storage units nearby. You should then surround these by towers and walls. The resource collectors can go outside of these.
The reason why you want this layout is to help protect the resource storage and your town hall. By surrounding everything with walls and towers (and eventually your builder’s huts), there is less chance somebody will be able to get into your base.
Build Walls Whenever You Can
If you want to slow down your competitors, then start to build walls whenever you can. As we mentioned before – most of your focus will be on protecting the structures in the center of your base (Town Hall and Resource Storage), so get those surrounded by upgraded walls as soon as you can. Over time, you’ll want to add more walls to the outside of your base, ensuring that other players have more hoops to jump through before they can even think about stealing your resources.
Town Hall Upgrades Aren’t a Priority
Contrary to popular belief, upgrading your town hall isn’t a priority. Every other building is. Only ever upgrade your Town Hall if you have enough resources to do so, but not enough (and nowhere near enough) resources to upgrade other buildings.
Use Gems to Buy Builder’s Huts Only
Don’t use your gems to rush building completion. It is a waste of gems. Instead, your gems should only ever be used to buy Builder’s Huts.
The only time you should use gems to rush completion is when you have tons of spare gems (normally because you have bought them), and you can no longer buy any more builder’s huts.
Play Regularly
Clash of Clans is a game that almost requires you to play on a daily basis, perhaps several times. So, make sure you play the game regularly. You’ll get needed practice in, and you can make base upgrades as soon as you can afford them. It can save you days and days of time like that!
