Killer Instinct

killer instinct

The back story of Microsoft’s Killer Instinct, a game developed by Iron Galaxy, is quite extensive. Despite being first released in 2013, the game received a major upgrade in 2024 that brought new features, balances, stages, and much more!

Killer Instinct is an OG and the most iconic Xbox game. How can we begin this list without mentioning it? Since this game is always on the front page of the Xbox Store and is free to play, I’m sure a lot of you guys have tried to play it at least once.

The base game of Killer Instinct is free across all platforms, and you will have limited characters available to play. If you really like the game, you can purchase the anniversary edition, which will unlock all 29 characters along with additional premium content.

Street Fighter 6

Street Fighter 6

Street Fighter 6 has introduced many new characters and mechanics while staying true to its core gameplay. The OG characters like Ryu, Ken, Dhalsim, Chun Li, Honda, etc. are still part of the game, with a lot of new characters being added from time to time.

Street Fighter 6 will surely captivate both casual and competitive players alike; the colorful graphics, creative background stages and wide variety of characters will never make you bored playing this game. If there is one franchise that has managed to keep its legacy while also releasing new editions, it has to be Street Fighter!

Speaking of casual players, I personally feel it’s hard to land combos and finish trails in Street Fighter. It is definitely a little hard to get the timing right and a lot of new players wish the combos were easy to execute. Speaking of easy-to-land combos, we have the perfect game for casual players next on the list!

Mortal Kombat 1

Mortal Kombat 1

Who doesn’t know about this classic franchise? Even people who haven’t played this game more or less know about Scorpion and his iconic dialogue “Get over here“. They could have heard it from the movies and randomly came across it, proving the franchise’s popularity.

I personally feel like Mortal Kombat 1 is going to be a really good pickup for casual players. The combos are easy to land, compared to most fighting games. There is a wide range of characters to choose from, and Mortal Kombat is famous for bringing in popular characters from outside the game, either from movies or other games like Rambo, Robocop, Predator, Terminator, etc.

A few such characters in Mortal Kombat 1 are Peacemaker, Omni-Man, and Homelander. The best part about the Mortal Kombat games is the fatalities, Are you someone who goes for the finisher or casually ends the game?

Tekken 8

Tekken 8

Finally, we have one of the most competitive games, Tekken! It is another amazing franchise that stayed true to its nature and successfully released a lot of sequels. Bandai Namco released Tekken 8 quite recently, on January 25, 2024.

Personally, I feel like Tekken is the hardest fighting game to master. A unique mechanic called side-step makes Tekken different from most other fighting games. Yeah, there might be no characters shooting energy balls from their hands or turning into a dragon to finish off the enemy, but Tekken has a style of its own and has a great and loyal fanbase.

Tekken also brings in new characters and changes to the official roster from time to time while still keeping the OG characters like Jin, King, Yoshimitsu, Law and others in the game.

The game also has a good storyline and great lore for each of the characters.

What do you think of the list? A couple of them are either available on GamePass or soon will be. And for Tekken 8, there is a free demo version you can try out before actually purchasing the game, so have fun trying out these games!

This brings us to the end of our list. What kind of fighting player are you? Someone who smashes random buttons and hopes for a special attack? Or someone who likes to practice combos and dominate the game?

No matter what type of player you are, if you’re a fan of Xbox games, you must definitely check out the Best XBOX games and see if you find a new favorite game!
